2011 in Pictures

in January from Bonaire on our way to St. Maarten...

arriving instead at Vieques! (Spanish Virgin Islands)

where we feel REALLY welcome

but to make amends they bring us a mermaid!

and we are given a serenade

When a few weeks later we arrive at St. Croix (USVI) we meet another mermaid but this one is not for the eating

on St. Maarten a happy reunion with our youngest daughter and her partner

here we participate in a new sport: dinghy climbing (only during Heineken Regatta)

and we see "Mirabella V" (largest one mast yacht of the world) squeeze through the Dutch Bridge

you can see why on Statia we always make a bee-line for our friends Mieke and Zoran

and on Nevis we have our own tourguide: the tallest Rasta singer Watusi

Zeevonk on the south coast of St. Kitts with Nevis in the background

once a year we wash our feet: a hot hot hot sulphur bath on Nevis

sulphur vapours around the top of Soufrière

but we freshen up after climbing the vulcano on Guadeloupe

on Dominica we are nearly crushed under the bow of a "Caribbean Princess"

and under way to Martinique (6 Bft) we are overtaken by a sub-ferry

in the open air theater of St. Pierre a performance of the Swan Lake by one our guests

another guest under the boat

the fruitman pays us a visit in Rodney Bay, St. Lucia and we pay him

keep in shape: Yoga at the Yacht Club, Rodney Bay

flying antenna and wind generator in a heavy squall (>50 knots) Admiralty Bay, Bequia: a hole in the radar dome and part of the antenna in the stern light

mango harvest at a deserted resort Admiralty bay

the "Bella Chiao" of Frits Dubois and Reinhilde vd Kroef as neighbours in Carriacou

Frits puts himself and us to work: an extra stay and extra putting

so we also need Dominique's workshop in Tyrrellbay, Carriacou: he works fast and is not expensive

Dominique at work on our new stays, now our mast can stay

did he see us? one of many on the Horshoe reef, Tobago Cays

why doesn't our anchor hold sometimes?

no, they did not all come from Zeevonk (we now have 2 e-readers) auction for the Carriacou Children Education Fund

Baradal, Tobago Cays, an "occasional shower"

the launching of our new anchor: a Rocna 40 (Grenada)

finishing touch on our new bimini

with another 2 solar panels each 180 Watt we have plenty green power

to be nice and comfortable at noon! (no, they are Centigrade)

and an occasional squall, plenty rainwater in the tank

but then there is CARNIVAL on Grenada

also for the kids

how about doing a HHH-run?

up up and down down climbing and sliding

oh what fun...

on a boat things (not people) break down regularly (apart from the generator and the watermaker)

but on Zeevonk we can serve our Belgian friends a 3-course dinner even during these high waves out at St. George's

the Seven Sisters were at home so we paid them a visit

three newly certificated Reiki practioners (Joke's "Tree Frog" Reiki courses)

time to set off for Curaçao

some heavy weather, hard to get the Parasailor down, then we make 7,6 knots for one hour, on just the mast...

the three 'buddies' lined up after a safe pirate-free (no code red) trip to Blanquilla

more buddie

eye-in-eye with the boobies on Aves Barlovento

and in exchange for some batteries we get a fresh barracuda

a rare sight: one flamengo on the run, Barlovento

let's see in 2012 if Léon contribution for the "monument" is still there

the sandy connection between the lighthouse island and Caya Agua, Los Roques

Willemstoren, wellknown from the cover of the book "Tropenkolder" ("Tropical Double Dutch??")

the slave huts of Bonaire: a lesson from history

the salt heaps in the afternoon light

sting ray under Zeevonk moored at Kralendijk

a curious iguana in Washington National Park (Bonaire, not USA)

at home in Spanish Water, Curaçao

another reminder, salt fields and monument near Jan Kok Estate

picking up our mooring at Klein Curaçao

where we occupy our own 'nude beach'!

and have our bbq and campfire

more celebrations: on Brionplein, Willemstad to honour the Royal visitors

and here they are (watching)

I mean these: Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima

a good catch: dorade, mahi-mahi, dolphin fish, what's in a name

as it means fresh fish on board!

Henk was there: Fatum run, 10 km

private salsa lesson on the cabin roof of the 'tugboat', Caracas bay, Curaçao

real or fake?

our watermaker broke down and no rain on Bonaire, shall we take from the pool or ...

or rather from the tap?

Sunday afternoon special: Lac Cay, Bonaire

mainsail down for repairs

natural forces at Boca Pistol, Shete Boca park Curaçao

and official forces, customs here in Willemstad, the friendliest we know!

5 years ago we agreed to meet here again, with circumnavigators At en Dia and they made it!

Dutch Saint Nicholas (Sinterklaas) dropped his presents (including poems!) on the trampolines

Dominican Republic in the early morning light after 3 days sailing from Bonaire

but their welcome music is a bit too much in the streets of Salinas

so we decide to celebrate our safe arrival with the national drink RUM

town entrance to Santa Domingo

where the first street to be cobbled in the new world was because the ladies wanted their afternoon stroll

and the oldest church of America with delicate smelling fresh lilies

Columbus can't be missed in the 'oldest city of America'

and finally Zeevonk in December after discovering Marina Zar-Par, Boca Chica, Dominican Republic
